That part of me

A flickering light in the shadows of darkness.
A dying flame threatened by a passing wind.
Smiling though deep down inside my inner child is crying.
SAVE ME! SAVE ME! I'm a prisoner to this body!
STOP IT! YOU'RE HURTING ME! she cries out daily,
but i tell her i'm too strong and she cannot control me.
Besides when she took over she allowed them all to hurt me.
Never again, never shall she be free!
Too naive, too shy to ever take charge of my life,
too weak to stand up, too loving to fight.
I hear her voice in my head amidst all the noise,
she's that part of me urging me, letting me know
i have a choice,
and i'm that part of her that shouts when she
has no voice.
Together we reside in this shell of mine,
fighting to live, our forces we combine.
I need her as much as she needs me,
to survive this life of utter cruelty.
