The Wildflower

The Wildflower

It could have been you,
hiding behind the post,
stretching out your arms,
faced upturned and smiling
at the early morning sun.
You were waving at me softly,
 swaying with the breeze,
it was only wishful thinking,
but you look so much the same.
As I walked a little closer
I nearly called your name.
A scent so very subtle
drifted through the air,
reminding me of the last time
I tied a ribbon in your hair.

I picked the wildflower for you,
but you're much too far away,
shall wilt before you see it,
this one I picked today.
Against its velvet petals
can't watch you stroke your face,
but together we will pick the one
that grows up in its place.
This goes into the special book
pressed between the pages,
hidden in our secret place
we've known about for ages,
knowing when you come again
will be the first place that you look.

I loved the flow of this, and as I read it is almost as if you are describing a dream. Reminds me of my girlfriend and I. We are apart right now, but will be together again in just 10 days! Wahoo! But in the few months we could only speak over the phone, and longed for each other, we took solice in a dream world we created, our meadow. Where we meet each night in our dreams. This reminded me of that special place where my love an I meet, and was sentimental for me for this reason. Wonderful write. ~Spence

Special sentiments.. that's what this is! Your visuals where so on cue, and brought me to the field where you shared that captured moment.. this is special, and in the recesses of your mind- thinking of that day- that blossom will always remain- beautiful flow, beautiful story, beautiful heart!-Maddi

The gentle care of wording neatly folds this lilting work into the forefront of emotion. All imagery is played upon the mind of the reader in beautiful facets reflected from your heart! Applause crescendo!!

Thank you so much! My niece inspired it as she reminds me of a wildflower.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
