My Angel
I can never forget that first time we met
After years had taken away the chances we get;
I can never go back and retrace my tracks
And stop in that place where I always look back.
But today and tomorrow, as is granted to me,
Your friend in this life, I always shall be;
You're more than a friend, a mirror to me,
A reflection of all my good memories.
More than a brother, more than a lover,
More than the sculpture lying under the covers,
How can I describe what my heart longs to say?
When I am with you all my tears go away.
I have to accept what has happened to us,
Sometimes I complain and make quite a fuss;
But after the dust settles down, it is clear,
You'll always be a part of the part I hold dear.
I'll watch from a distance the life that you own,
Wanting and wishing, if I'd only known,
What life would be like with you by my side,
To never more flow in and out with the tide.
"It is what it is," or at least that's what they say,
If I were a god I would change that today;
But as long as I know I can call now and then,
I'll take it and make it the best that I can.
You have your life now, and I have mine too,
But darling, sweet Michael, whatever you do,
Please keep one small part of your heart just for me,
And I will be happy, as a fish in the sea.
Knowing that yes, we can too go home,
If just for a minute, the daylight has shone,
And opened my heart and my eyes now to see,
That you are the angel in my sleepy dreams.
