Reincarnated
"TRES VIDAS"
I'VE READ THE STORIES OF YOUR LIFE
ON THE PAGES IN YOUR EYES
THEY TELL ME OF THE PAIN YOU BORE
AND THE TEARS YOU NEVER CRIED
(AND I READ ON)
IN SEARCH OF ALL THE DREAMS
THAT YOU TOLD NO-ONE ABOUT
FIGHTING ALL YOUR DEMONS
WITH THE ANGER YOU LET OUT
(DID YOU EVER WIN?)
EVERY DAY I TURN A PAGE
AND THE WORDS COME TO ME CLEAR
YOU WERE A MAN WHO LIVED ALONE
THOUGH THERE WERE OTHERS NEAR
(DO YOU REMEMBER ME?)
THE DRUGS, THE BOOZE, THE MUSIC
MISSING DAYS THAT HAVE GONE BY
I'M GLAD YOU SLOWED DOWN LONG ENOUGH
TO LET THE MADNESS DIE
(I SAID A PRAYER)
YOU'VE ALWAYS HAD YOUR FRIENDS
WHO'VE HELPED ALONG THE WAY
BUT HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED
ABOUT THE ONES WHO DIDN'T STAY?
(I WAS ONE OF THEM)
I WAS TOLD TO LEAVE YOU FOR AWHILE
THAT IT WAS TIME TO LET YOU GO
THEY SAID THAT ONE DAY I'D RETURN
BUT WHEN, I DIDN'T KNOW
(AND I MISSED YOU)
I TRUSTED IN THE GODS ABOVE
THE WEAVER OF OUR DREAMS
TO SEND ME TO YOU ONCE AGAIN
TO MEND THE SHREDDED SEAMS
(AND SO I WAITED)
THEY GAVE TO ME A BRAND NEW LIFE
AND THEY TOOK MY MEMORY
OF ALL THAT YOU AND I ONCE WERE
OF ALL WE COULDN'T BE
(BUT YOU REMEMBERED)
WHILE I WAS GONE I WENT THROUGH YEARS
WITHOUT KNOWING WE EVER MET
I'VE DONE SOME THINGS I SHOULDN'T HAVE
...BUT NOTHING I REGRET
(SOUND FAMILIAR?)
TIME WENT BY IN OUR SEPERATE LIVES
THE GODS APPROACHED ME RECENTLY
THEY SENT ME BACK INTO YOUR DAYS
TO COMPLETE OUR DESTINY
(OUR FATE BEGINS)
OVER CIGARETTES AND COFFEE
THE THREADS WERE SEWN AGAIN
AND SOMEWHERE ALONG THE SEAM
YOU BECAME MORE THAN A FRIEND
(YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS)
LATE ONE NIGHT BEFORE THE DAWN
YOUR HANDS CARESSED MY FACE
AND YOU SPOKE TO ME WITHOUT A SOUND
IN THE WARMTH OF YOUR EMBRACE
(AND YOU KISSED ME)
I WANTED TO SHOW YOU THE FOREST
AND LAY YOU BENEATH THE TREES
BUT WE LISTENED TO THE WARNINGS
THAT WHISPERED ON THE BREEZE
(AND WE WERE WISE TO WAIT)
YOU SEE, THEY WOULDN'T LET ME READ YOUR BOOK
WHILE I WAS LIVING MY NEW LIFE
AND THE AUTHOR, IN ALL HIS CHARMING WIT
GAVE YOU CHILDREN AND A WIFE
(AND THE ACHE BEGINS)
HOW CAN THEY BE SO CRUEL?
THEIR HEARTS CAN'T BE THIS HOLLOW
TO PLACE THE SWEETNESS IN MY MOUTH
THEN ASK ME NOT TO SWALLOW.
(FOR HOW LONG?)
FOR NOW, I'LL STOP THE QUESTIONS
MAYBE SOON I'LL UNDERSTAND
WHY YOUR STORIES FILL MY PAGES
AND WHY THEY PLACED THEM IN MY HANDS
(IT'S IN MY HANDS)
