Belief

My life has no meaning
No beginning and no end
At least not by myself
There is nothing i could lend-

-To this sickening world
Made of lies and deceit
Only few make it through
And never dwell on defeat

I, on the other hand,
Dwell on every single shame
Never ever allowing myself
To have any kind of fame

All the worlds hopes
And dreams and desires
Are no longer in existence
Thanks to the social fires

They burned each one down
Burned them to the ground
Leaving no traces behind
And never allowed to be found

As I sit here with chains
Wrapped around my fragile wrists
I clear all my thoughts
And start to make a list

A list of the things
Good and/ or bad
Of this and of that
And of things happy and sad

I hear children laugh
I can hear the babes cry
But as I am locked up here
Never will I see the shining sky

Never will I experience
What life is meant to be about
Or what it means to be innocent
or even lazy and stout

I shall never enjoy those
While I'm locked within here
I only see the guards
But all they do is sneer

You see, this is life
How I know it to be
Not whether you survive
But rather what you believe

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
