Lingering
Some mornings your essence lingers close
Like the morning dew clinging to a rose
I inhale the deep sent of your missing body
While my eyes peel open for the smell of coffee
The sun is placed just right in the sky
I look down at the place you'd normally lie
Tears swell up in my already sad eyes
I can still feel you, though I've said my goodbyes
The caress of your hand on my cheek,
The racing of my heart that was nowhere near weak,
Your fingertips sliding against my throat and lips
The weight of your grasp upon my hips
The feel of your body entwined with mine
The kisses and nips that were simply divine.
Yes, the tears have come again down my face
But the memories of you don't fill the space
It nags and pulls upon my wounds
You seemed to have left me far too soon
Whatever you may have known, i wish you knew
That i was a better person because of you
Like the morning dew clinging to a rose
