    Five Partridge in the Old Apple Tree

     Their silent silouhette
    five in the tree
    Ruffed Grouse awaiting

    Startled by a noise
    all fly away
    like in an old painting

    When flushed the flock flew
    along the brook
    barren and frozen

    Because of available seeds
    this tree was what
    had been chosen

    These northern partridge
    are so much more than meat
    Their drumming in springtime
    to me makes them neat
