HOLD ME DEAR
the calendar on the wall says
the holidays are here
but time is standing still for me
come and visit me my dear
i lay here helpless
well my body at least
my mind is working over-time
as you indulge in a home-made feast
i wish i would get visitors
as i rot in this place
how i long to see you
my love
a familiar face
i know you didn’t visit me
but you don’t think i know
the stroke took my functions
and left me with a body
useless though
you think my thoughts were stolen too
maybe if you’d come and see
i’m still very much me
missing you
it all seems futile now
what keeps my mind right
now everything is dark
your love was my shining light
i see you daily in my mind
it’s a faded image
you know the kind
i fondly remember your touch
but lately i can’t feel anything much
so hold me dear
as you lie alone in our bed
for every night i’m with you
as i hold you in my arms in my head
the holidays are here
but time is standing still for me
come and visit me my dear
i lay here helpless
well my body at least
my mind is working over-time
as you indulge in a home-made feast
i wish i would get visitors
as i rot in this place
how i long to see you
my love
a familiar face
i know you didn’t visit me
but you don’t think i know
the stroke took my functions
and left me with a body
useless though
you think my thoughts were stolen too
maybe if you’d come and see
i’m still very much me
missing you
it all seems futile now
what keeps my mind right
now everything is dark
your love was my shining light
i see you daily in my mind
it’s a faded image
you know the kind
i fondly remember your touch
but lately i can’t feel anything much
so hold me dear
as you lie alone in our bed
for every night i’m with you
as i hold you in my arms in my head
