    Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem after the death of my best friend Kelly Hjelm. We lost him on July 11, 2005 just before his 21st birthday. This poem was my way of trying to help others cope with the loss of this wonderful, loving young man. He is always in my heart and I miss him every single day.

    In Loving Memory

    Losing someone is always hard,
Especially when you’re caught off guard.

You wonder if you are to blame,
And see everyone else thinking the same.

You ask yourself what you could have done,
To stop him from taking that final plunge.

Then you realize there’s nothing you could do,
Because he never would have let you.

You try to mend what has been torn,
And find your own way to mourn.

The pain he felt we’ll never know,
It’s hard to imagine feeling that low.

But Kelly’s pain has been erased,
And the love he gave can never be replaced.
