    Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem when I was about 14 or 15 years old

    Loneliness

    Loneliness can make you hurt
It makes you feel like dirt

It comes when no one thinks of you
So you have nothing at all to do

When you make plans with someone
And all you want is to have some fun

When that someone finds something else to do
    And forgets completely about you

You find this out too late
And all it brings is hate

You can’t plan to do anything new
So you sit around with nothing to do

    Sometimes you will cry
And wish that you could die

    You’ll think everyone’s mad
And that you did something bad

It’s really not because of you
They just found something better to do

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
