Poem Commentary

Written 4/24/04 when I was 18 years old

Real Life

How do you know if someone is a friend?
If the friendship is real or just pretend?

To me a friend is always there
To stand by you and always care

When it comes to acquaintances, I’ve had a few
But I’ve never had a friend that was true

The thing that is the worst of all
Is that I’m the one who always has to call

No one invites me to come kick it
Unless they get something out of it

I get used all the time
But still I help on a dime

I do favors for every one I’m around
But few favors for me can be found

My experience with people hasn’t been that good
I’d take them all back if I could

My life may be pretty lame
But at least it is finally tame

Nobody said that life is easy
And that’s the way it will always be

this poem tells a story that is so true.really true friends are very few and hard to find. very well written. slohan4

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
