    Poem Commentary

I've been asking this question for years, finally got around to putting it into a poem.

    WHY!

Still alone and I don't know why,
I've stopped seeking answers to come from on high.
I want to move on but no matter how I try,
I end each day asking the question, why?

On a dock by the lake, o'er head the blue sky,
unlike the geese away I'll never fly.
Only wanting to say my final goodbye,
yet I carry on, and just don't know why.

So beaten and torn I can no longer cry,
each new failure met with a familiar sigh.
"This too shall pass," is a horrific lie,
yet still I go on, someone please tell me why?

Some tell me the end of the world draweth nigh,
through waves of regret must the ship of life pligh.
Fate pulls us through with a grin that is sly,
marooning us on the shore, still asking why?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
