    Yuan River

    Yuan River raised me like loving mother;
    the riverbank was my disciplinary father.
    Far away from Yatz and Pacific Sea,
    dividing into swamps, ponds, lakes and streams.
    Delicious fish, fragrant rice,
    blossoming lilies hid lotus seeds.
    Rich countryside, oh full of rice and fish.

    Yuan River raised me like loving mother;
    the riverbank was my disciplinary father.
    Strong current washed away poverty scenes,
    low tide displayed lifeless children's bodies.
    Peasants cleansed their calloused hands, muddy feet;
    cool water quenched instant hungers, burning thirsts;
    also purified vegetables, laundries, summer sins.

    Yuan River raised me like loving mother;
    the riverbank was my disciplinary father.
    Mountains view reflected in the river, my only mirror.
    I picked my favorite orchard to decorate growing hair,
    dripping dew wet ragged cloth.
    I collected pine needles for cooking stove,
    dwarf's back bent by mountain's load.

    I miss you,
    Yuan River!
    My mother,
    my father.
    Where I was raised,
    where I belong.
    I am coming home!

    Very nice! Beautifully written. It captures life on the river eloquently.

    A nicely written work relating issues of missing family and homeland. Seems your great talent can lead you in many directions. Writing books, short stories and/or poetry. Keep writing, Great write.

    I read rrevan's comment and a book sounds great. I also love this as a poem. You have a tight was of saying things and use strong nouns and verbs. This is very good. I will try to get to some of your other poems soon. SAlly

    Susan, I read all of your poems last night. If I may take the liberty of being honest with you, I'd like to make a suggestion, that maybe you haven't considered yet. I think your talent would be better suited to writing a book. Your work is very telling of a very strong and resilient woman that has overcome incredible odds and survived horrendous circumstances which would have soon broken most others. I also perceive a certain and rare determination in you that searches out truth and beauty amid overwhelming darkness and cruel injustices. I think you have a testimony that should be recorded and shared which would inspire so many. I hope you aren't offended by my words. I mean to encourage you. I am glad that you sent me the friend invite. In return, I am being honest, sincere, and hopefully encouraging.

    Thanks. Let's talk more on your suggestion. I love ths idea. Thanks again.

    Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
