Poem Commentary

I wonder if life is about answering questions?

Eternal Time

Eternal Time

There IS time, before I was born.

There IS time, as I am here now.

There IS time, after I am dead.

Where WAS I?

Where AM I?

Where WILL I be?

'Interesting how for some it is about the knowing....others the asking' And for a lucky few there is but living. Living in the moment, because thats all life is really, a moment. Each second but a passing moment in time, and time only a concept created by man. Time is but a memory, a collective of past moments. There is no past or future, just the here and now. That is real. Great write, really gets you thinking my friend. I enjoyed it. ~Spence

It does seem to be a balancing act, yes? Maybe like a teeter totter. Now is at the point in the middle. If we get caught up in our past too much, that side of our life becomes "heavy". I look at my life as too heavy for the future. And your point is well taken. I need to find my way back to the center.

I like the metaphor. The here and now is the fulcrum of life. Nice my friend. ~Spence

Interesting how for some it is about the knowing...others the asking, I supposed there is time enough to satisfy both eventually...a mind bending write

I remember someone asking if the chicken or the egg came first. And I guess it is the same as asking does the question or the answer come first? It seems obvious, at the start. But the "idea" must come first in both cases.

INTERESTING QUESTION FOR THE AGES TO SAY THE LEAST. EINSTEIN SAD IT WELL "TIME IS REALITIVE"... REALITIVE TO THE CONTEXT IN WHICH ONE INTERPRETS IT. REALITIVE TO ONE'S OWN MIND, SENSE OF SELF, CONTEXT OF THE UNIVERSE, ETC. TO ANSWER THE QUESTION WHAT IS PAST LIVES IN THE SHADOWS OF DARKNESS FOR IT CEASES TO EXIST WITHIN PRESENT. WHAT WILL BECOME IN THE FUTURE IS A MYSTERY CLOUDED BY THE FOG OF ETERNITY. TIME IS BEST UNDERSTOOD BY THE PRESENT FOR IT IS HERE THAT WE CAN TRUELY LEARN TO LIVE. EXAMPLE: PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE PAST STUNT THEIR GROWTH TO LEARN AND GROW BECAUSE THEY HOLD ON TO MEMORIES AND EVENTS THAT CAN NOT BE CHANGED. PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE FUTURE NEVER REALLY LEARN TO ENJOY TO PRESENT. THERE IS AN OLD CHINESE PROVERB, IF YOU KEEP ONE EYE ON THE PAST AND ONE ON THE FUTURE, THAN YOU WILL OFTEN TRIP AND FALL, FOR AS U TRAVEL FORWARD YOU ARE WALKING BLIND... CARPA DIEM. JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHTS. PERHAPS I SEE, PERHAPS I AM BLIND??? PURITY OF THE SOUL, JOURNEY WELL!!! ANGEL

Nice write! Your response is artful, as well as informative. (Inquisitive too!) I do tend to trip a lot!

Yes. I agree. I think of thoughts, like I think of a picture. We capture both in a split second of time to be preserved. And the thought, just like the picture, is ever evolving because the one thing that can never be captured, is the moment of interpretation by the viewer.

Maybe time exists in all three tenses, all at the same time? But without questions, time does not exist? I found our (humans) achilles heel. We ask questions. "Time" seems to confuse the answers.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
