Poem Commentary

You are free to live your life as you choose. No matter the choices you make or the paths you follw, your life is your own canvas to fill. Let the picture left behind shine brilliant with the colour of a life well lived.

Free to Soar

Cast off the jesses of self doubt,

Dream of golden days,

Hope for freedom

And set yourself free to soar.

Allow no man to set the mark

By which your life to span

Defy the limits, outreach the sky,

Do not be afraid to live or to die.

Aspire to stand atop the mountains,

A silhouette of greatness,

Arms outreached in salutation,

Of an impossible fate mapped.

You are your own constraint,

The ropes about your mind,

You can rescue your own want,

Your own need to find,

That perfect place,

The unwritten oracles of bliss,

You have the power to choose,

The path your years will take.

Hold fast to the ship,

Ride the river hard,

Face the storms with pride

And smile into the warm sun.

You are your own tool to craft,

The best house you can,

The happiest existence,

Possible for man.

I love when a person knows precisely what he or she is about. You have out-classed Rudyard Kipling's "If" .......LOL. Of course, this is a more pleasant poem to read, and just as powerful. Your quatrains are perfect, Your metaphors are very appropriate and effective, a feature with which it is ..easy to identify oneself . A very mature outlook is expressed, in perfect poetry from one so young. My rating for unified and logical development of theme, diction, punch-line and effective conclusive or clinching stanza, as well as flawless rhythm, and strong appeal is 10+ Reply to Comment

Thank you so much! Truly I could not have expected such praise! I would not dream of ever aspiring to stand anywhere near the greats of poetry, for we are all but students attempting to learn that most difficult of tasks, diction which captures the emotions of a moment. There must always be room for improvement. I am none the less though, absolutely speechless at recieving such a reception, so thank you a thousand times overl. We should all strive to know ourselves :). Narrator.

Thank you Asha! I am so grateful you stopped by and commented! I am glad you liked the poem. Those crossroads in our lives often are so very hard to reckon with and you can never truly know which path is the right one to pick. Narrator x

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment Dah! Truly you are your own limits! Narrator.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
