'tis oft now I wonder...
‘tis oft now I wonder, how it is with thee?
I trail unbroken promises as a shroud to swathe
All passions felt, beneath the dry,
Sunken depths of a desert like soul,
Left lamenting fairer climes.
Thou art the shivering spirit beneath the glowing sun,
As a hand and a token I reach for thee,
And seek anew the sweet Promised Land.
I know in my heart,
As much as I might reach, thou would’st walk in the shade,
Am I wrong to lament the passing of spring?
Wrong to wonder, why oh so short a life,
Doth my summer smile endure?
I recollect a time of ease, beyond the shadow dim,
I remember when last we danced beneath the stars,
Thy word a sweet caress.
The morn and the night meld into one,
As I find myself wondering, where art the sun?
Hast thou forsaken the noon and night,
Left me to dream, of a new dawn break?
Alas I would that thou, recall thyself, as I do now,
A shining, blazing banner broke,
Upon the hill of newfound hope.
A smiling sweetly, in the throes of blessed joy.
I remember thee in days gone by,
When all the world did fresh new days, and bright future belie.
And thus as it was spoken, as words fall to dust,
I am a powerless smith of hollow verse,
Willing that I might a smile evoke.
For I wish thee a happy day,
A dream to stoke, the fire of thine eyes.
