To Handsome Stranger

Poem Commentary

Sitting in the shade of Hardy's Lizbie Browne, with hints of his structure and form.

To Handsome Stranger

To Handsome Stranger:

Dear Handsome Stranger,

I wonder now, why I never,

Asked your name,

As we stood together

Side by side again and again

My Handsome Stranger?

And Handsome Stranger,

I wish I knew, whether the glances,

Were a mutual thing imparted,

Did I miss too many chances?

Ended it before it started?

My Handsome Stranger!

Well my Handsome Stranger,

I have often thought,

That the same train we rode,

Day after day that brought

Us to the same road,

Was fate my Handsome Stranger!

To my Handsome Stranger,

I addressed my dreams and fears,

Wished for you to smile,

To brush away my tears,

And with kisses beguile.

Dark Handsome Stranger!

Then My Handsome Stranger,

You stopped travelling with me,

I never saw you after,

I guessed you must be free,

Basking in the laughter,

Of a fellow Handsome Stranger!

Thank you for stopping by! Yes, it seems to me like it would be a very romantic situation, admiration from afar. Thank you once again, Narrator.
