Ignorance is not bliss...
The letters we exchanged and the whispered words,
Long since over, shattered and stained with tears,
I thought it had passed, the aching and the hurt,
Thought you no longer held any power over me,
I was wrong I now know, nothing has changed my dear,
You are yet within me, the dreams, the hope, the fear.
It’s not the same anymore, I thought it was,
I thought it was enough, to hope and to feel,
I thought that I could believe; hold it true in myself,
But you see, I just can’t, I will wonder each time,
You tell me you are true, explain your heart,
Whether it’s real, when it will end and whether it will last.
Do you love me or is it just a state,
Something to pass the time, do you weary,
As I do, of sitting alone, what we are, if we is real,
Is just a way to numb the pain, ‘till she comes along?
You said you’d turn away the chance, not the hand,
But the touch, the emotion and lance, but would you?
Do you know as you live, your life as you choose,
How confined and constrained you make me?
You let go of the leash with but a sentence or two,
But you did not realise, did not comprehend,
We were bound as we were, I to you,
By more than a promise, I’d my soul to defend,
I love you and no matter now or then, the past or never,
In my eyes you’re perfect, and this storm I shall weather.
