The Decline
My heart is heavy and my sigh is low,
The dawn is no longer approaching,
The clouds are blinding and the sun is dim,
winter is come and its lease is long o’er life!
I cannot now recall the warmth of the sun on my skin,
Nor the soft touch of love on my heart,
For who could love one as I?
Who could ever dream of me and recall me fondly?
I am not as I once was, youth hath left me,
I am now on my knees and will by time decay.
