Getting High

Getting High

Lets get high.... really!
No no no, not that way, silly
I don't need drugs and alcohol
To get "wired"

In fact, I've found a more powerful way
To "enlighten" myself
It's not really a drug, more of a drink
I guess

It's called the "milk of human kindness"
Now hold on a minute
Before you all run away
Hear me out

The other day
I watched a young couple
Help an elderly lady
Who had locked her keys in her car

They must have worked
Twenty minutes or more
Before finally getting the door open

The elderly lady being grateful
Offered them money
To which they declined
They only wanted to help her

To watch something like that
To me was so rewarding
God it... it moved me to tears

How many of us are willing
To stand up for what we believe
And how we want the world to be

I think back on the times
That I have been helped
Or had the privilege to help
A total stranger

There is no drug on this planet
More powerful
Than an act of simple kindness
Don't believe me
Try it some time

I dare you

I love all your poems, lonewolf, but this one is my favorite. I wish more people felt this way.

Cool, I'm always the one rolling down my window to tell someone, "Your gas cap door is open" or "your coffee's on the roof" or "Slow down, it's only 25 through here and the cops are assholes!" LOL

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
