Reflection

Reflection

Gazing into the stillness
of the water, I see
the reflection staring
back at me;
sad eyes telling
a thousand tales
of what might have been.
Lost dreams and excuses
have weathered
the lines upon my face,
making me question
how this could be.
Forgotten paths and
discarded plans muddy
the water as I watch me
slip away in the shallows,
wondering if I will ever
find me again.

Hit the nail right on the head. Added to favorites as soon as I read it. Getting older seems to have its good and bad sides. I am beginning to see it as a good thing. Just took me forever to get over my youth.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
