The Dance
THE ORCHESTRA IS STARTING TO PLAY
A SOOTHING MELODY.
I GET UP THE COURAGE TO ASK YOU
IF YOU WOULD DANCE WITH ME.
YOU ACCEPTED, AND OH! THE JOY
THAT FILLED MY HEART JUST THEN.
NEVER BEFORE HAVE I FELT SUCH JOY,
SINCE I CAN’T REMEMBER WHEN.
SO MANY TIMES I TURNED YOU DOWN
WHEN YOU ASKED ME TO DANCE,
AND I KNEW IT HURT YOUR FEELINGS,
I HAD SEEN IT IN YOUR GLANCE.
SOMEHOW I’VE GROWN CLOSER TO YOU
THAN I’VE EVER BEEN BEFORE,
AND I KNEW I HAD TO MAKE AMENDS
AND GET YOU ON THAT FLOOR.
YOU PLACED YOUR ARMS AROUND ME
AND SUDDENLY I FELT FREE.
YOU LIFTED UP MY BURDENS
AND TOOK THEM ALL FROM ME.
WE DANCED WITH EASE AROUND THE HALL
LIKE WE WERE DANCING ON THE AIR.
WE DIDN’T KNOW THE MUSIC STOPPED
AND NO-ONE ELSE WAS THERE.
YOU HELD ME CLOSE, WHAT PEACE I FELT,
THEN YOU SAID THAT YOU LOVED ME.
AFTER ALL I’D DONE TO YOU,
JUST HOW COULD THAT BE?
YOU’D FORGIVEN ME FOR ALL I’D DONE
AND LOVED ME JUST THE SAME.
YOU WERE SO FORGIVING,
IT MADE ME FEEL ASHAMED.
YOU HELD ME CLOSE AND DANCED AROUND,
AND SET MY BONDAGE FREE.
YOU TOOK AWAY ALL MY GUILT
THE NIGHT YOU DANCED WITH ME.
