The Tear of Love
AS I LEANED OVER TO KISS HER GOODBYE,
A TEAR RAN DOWN HER CHEEK.
SHE HADN’T RESPONDED TO ANY OF US.
SHE’D BEEN IN A COMA ALL WEEK.
I COULDN’T LEAVE AS I HAD PLANNED,
I KNEW I HAD TO STAY.
I KNEW IT WOULDN’T BE TOO LONG,
BEFORE SHE’D GO AWAY.
I STAYED THERE BY HER BEDSIDE,
AND SOFTLY SANG SOME TUNES,
(SOME HYMNS THAT WERE HER FAVORITES),
FOR I KNEW SHE’D LEAVE ME SOON.
SHE WOULD LEAVE TO BE WITH GOD
IN THE WORLD THAT LIES BEYOND.
‘TWAS ONLY FIFTEEN MINUTES MORE
UNTIL HER LIFE WAS GONE.
I KNOW THAT SHE IS HAPPY
IN THAT WORLD SOMEWHERE ABOVE,
AND I THANK GOD FOR GIVING ME
THAT PRECIOUS TEAR OF LOVE.
