ELEVENTH DAY OF SEPTEMBER
It’s a sad day, the eleventh of September,
One we will never forget, and always remember,
I look out the window, and see the new skyline,
One ever so changed, and now also redefined,
Where the towers used to stand, are two beams of light,
Reaching to the heavens, breaking through the dark night,
Glitter appears, to frolic up each of the beams,
Bearing all the names, that day of loss dreams,
I recall it so vividly, like it was just yesterday,
I was on a tugboat on the Potomac, with a barge underway,
Bound for Washington marina, a mile from the pentagon,
When the plane struck, it sounding like a bomb,
Smoke filled the sky, as sirens polluted the air,
I turned on my six inch tv, and all I could do is stare,
Navy seal fast boats roared by, heading inbound,
Never forgetting the F-16 Falcons, overhead flying around,
I watched in disbelief, but this was so very real,
Not being able to describe, or even know what to feel,
For the families and loved ones, of those who lost their lives,
To the mothers, sons, fathers, daughters, husbands, and wives,
My heart goes out to you, may there memory live on,
That these two bright beams, bring light to a new dawn,
Thank you to all the heroes, that sacrificed their life,
To save another person, and paid the ultimate price,
To all the victims, we will never forget your name,
Please know we miss you, and you did not die in vain,
I pray for protection, and that all hostility will cease,
Most importantly, I pray that all their souls rest in peace,
It will be a memory, that I will always remember,
That dreadful, heroic morning, the eleventh day of September.
