A Peaceful Night
It's quiet other than the constant roar of the mains
I stare out the dark windows while it lightly rains
Jimmy buffet plays in the background "Come Monday"
While the six foot sea makes the boat begin to sway
Not a ship in the ocean just the big blue and me
No stars out tonight at least of what I can see
Faint sounds of chatter clutter on my vhf radio
Doing a crawl at five knots northbound we go
Lights flicker across the dash as the radar sweeps
The nextell phone getting signal occasionally beeps
The auto pilot maintains course with a click, click
A front passing through is making the air thick
Most the crew is asleep so there's not much going on
Two more hours before I can go to sleep at dawn
The wind is out of the south following from behind
Thoughts of home seem to dance through my mind
A light breeze blows through the open door
The heat from the day is now gone for sure
Our AC is broke so the cool air is a blessing
When it will be fixed is not worth guessing
My barge is tracking astern right in my line
As of now everything seems to be just fine
The weather tomorrow will bring up a gale
Making our trip north a bit rough of a sail
So I will take this serenity in while it last
For very soon that will change really fast
Im getting tired so I'm ready for the night to cease
Go lay my head in my pillow and rest in peace
