No Longer to Me

No Longer to Me

The words become daggers
That slice too cleanly
Leaving deeper wounds
Than the eye can see

For they bring back dark shadows
of so many other ballads
Of so many other scars

But not a hint in my eyes
As cold as the ice
As still as the silent heart
As quiet as death

Only deep inside is the bleeding
So deep is the sorrow
That it belongs to another
No longer to me...

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
