The Other One

The Other One

She thinks I am a bad thing
She has kept me locked away
For a very long time
She calls it denial of the urge
Self Control
She calls me deviant

But I am separate and distinct
I take what I want
I throw away the rest
I have but one need
To quench my desires

I hold the Strength
The Power
I would still be locked away
If not for you
Even she could not resist
For very long

She tried to protect you
She resisted
Said the correct things
To put your welfare first
She cared for you
Worried...
But you were mean to her
Continued to pursue
Made her angry
Treated her without respect
What were you thinking?
So she turned to me
For we share the desires
And it is only I who touches you

You free me from my cage
Until I am through
With you...

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
