Proud as a Peacock

Proud as a Peacock

Busy as a beaver

In the early morning light,

In a pine tree claimed as home

Out back but still within our sight,

Silhouette against the shades of green

Of Maple, Camphor, Pine and Oak,

Scamper our furry tailed long streak of gray

Seen with blurry eyes since I awoke.

Running his own little rat race

This cute squirrel never stops,

In a flash he scales the length of it

Back to it’s needled top,

Clutching clumps of leaves of oak

Bit from the tender youngest branch,

Alternating it with pine bouquets

In this delicate needled dance.

An early May new home he builds

On this cool spring sunny morn,

Where he toils away the hours

Before his sweethearts babies born,

A true labor of love he presents

As he readies for May 8th,

With this grandest Mother’s Day gift

To his furry Loving Mate.

This is a beautiful piece on love and nature. I love how you described the scenery and everything magically flowed together. :) Rita

Thank you Rita for the sweet comments. It's fun sometimes just watching nature and trying to figure out whats going on in their little minds. The babies have birthed and are growing and all seems right now in their own little world high up in the trees. If you liked this squirrel writeand have an appetite for more, you might also enjoy "Amour or Less", "Just Plain Squirrelly", Shakesquirrel", "The Entertainers", and "The Victor". Blessings, Whiskers

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
