The Spring’s Ballbusters

Poem Commentary

Just a simplistic little poem I just wrote on the drive over, for the clubhouse pool hall where we keep our camper and stay a few days each week while I'm getting my treatments. Figure it will go along with the pictures we've framed up on the walls.

The Spring’s Ballbusters

There’s a group of men that weekly meet,

To shoot the bull and then compete,

Across the felt lined slated surface,

Cue in hand to win their purpose,

Lagging for the breaking honor,

Ball busting as the cue ball wanders,

Watching as he takes his best shot,

Sinking balls into each pocket,

Using English, banking, masse’,

Carom shots off balls where they lay,

Playing eight ball - (one fifteen),

Making called shots nice and clean,

Nine ball rotation and one “O” one,

Marty’s game that’s lots of fun.

We’ve even got some women players,

Shooting well these billiard neighbors.

Who are these guy and gals that shoot?,

We’ll sign below to tell the truth,

And hang this up upon the wall,

For future shooters

                                        To recall.

Thank you T my friend. Rhyming just comes as natural to me as beautiful prose rolls off you pen for you... something I don't seem to have the knowledge or skill to try for myself, but will someday try when I get the inspiration. Blessings, W.

Thank you sanctus, when I wrote it yesterday I included references to two games we play differently and which most may not be familiar with; 8- ball 1/15, where the first ball (stripe or solid) you pocket is the pocket you must sink the 8-ball cleanly into to win, and the 1-ball must be sunk in the left side pocket if you have solid's, and the 15-ball must be sunk into the right side pocket if you have stripes, very challenging. 101 is far too lengthy an explaination to post here now, but a barrel of fun for as many shooters as possible to play. Blessings, Whiskers.

THE BILLIARD STRENGTHENS FRIENDSHIP, YES IT DOES! "WHO ARE THESE GUYS AND GALS THAT SHOOT?, ... TRUTH AND HANG THIS UPON THE WALL, FOR SHOOTERS TO RECALL." OH HOW I LOVE THESE STANZAS, THEIR RHYMING STYLE AND EVEN THE RESPECTED RHYTHM! BRAVO!

Thank you so much Gusty for the praise over this write, it was just a way to have some fun and bring a little bit of poetry into our pool room. Yes my friend you are right about billiards building friendships. I'm glad you liked the rhyme's and rhythm... it did just flow out. I didn't think it was very professional or well done when writing it... you know when something comes too easily we don't appreciate it. I didn't even expect any comments except maybe in criticism so thank you for validating it. Blessings, Whiskers.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
