Poem Commentary

This is a poem about my paternal grandfather. He passed away in June of 1996. I really miss him, and I don't have many memories about him. I really would appreciate it if you guys would go easy on me with this poem, if you don't like it, PLEASE don't leave a nasty comment. This poem is one of the closest to my heart, and I don't know if I could stand to have it critiqued. It's just here to be read, and appreciated.

Sonny

You were The Mailman, loved by all,

When someone needed a jokester, you were the one to call.

Everyone loved you, you were the man of many smiles,

with that twinkle in your eye, that was your style.

You were a big man, the gentlest giant,

four hundred pounds of tender, caring soul

you weren't much of a pedant

but you loved to tinker with whatever, take it apart or make it whole.

you loved your family, all your friends too,

And there is no question we loved you too.

we all still love you to this very day,

And it shall always stay this way.

Love it. It makes me want to hug my mailman and get to know him.

Oh so nice to a grand pa, good thoughtful poem and to the point, we all love mailmen too.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
