The Distance Between…
How can one spare the life of a hardened heart
How can one live without the other in a moment of travesty
The distance between the soft glow and light in your eyes
The distance between the shattered dreams and broken promises
The distance is knowing love transcends all these wistful wishes
The distance is knowing you’re not always going to be there
The distance between you and I is falling is hard
But leaving is a much worse feeling
The distance is believing a lie when it should really be the truth
The distance between is knowing the tricks of the trade when every time always ends the same
Mourning, we come to mend,
Withered, we come to weather,
Torn, we come to tend,
Battered, we come to be better.
Tethered by this year of yearning,
We are learning
We weren’t ready, but
we have been readied for it.
Steadily we vow that no matter
How we are weighted down,
We must always pave a way forward.
This hope is our door, our portal.
Even if we never get back to normal,
Someday we can venture beyond it,
To leave the known and take the first steps.
So let us not return to what was normal,
But reach toward what is next.
What was cursed, we will cure.
What was plagued, we will prove pure.
Where we tend to argue, we will try again
In the distance between we can be fully known the reasons that keep us longing for more
It’s a fading pattern beginning to wear thin
The attraction is and was there, but now waning in a dead end of remorse and regret.
There is no turning back from the distance between
