After A Yawn
After a few last blinks of the eyes
We say our final goodbyes
Tucked in our sanctuary of sleep
After a yawn you don’t hear a peep.
Suddenly in the ocean placed upon a raft
Cold and wet, you feel a heavy draft
In the distance you see a red light
Distracted, you grip the raft tight.
The red illumination comes nearer
You reach out, it’s suddenly clearer.
A dark face appears in front of you
It smiles and leaves before you come-to.
You sing to yourself and the open sea
Hoping you’ll lullaby it and be set free
The sea calms as it’s put to sleep
You stand and walk across its waters deep
Again the red face greets you with a smile
You ask him, “Please stay a while.”
He says he wants to take you away
To some place that is safe for the day.
Taking his hand you agree to go
Taking a breath, it’s a good feeling you know
Awaking to an underground lair
You get a trapped feeling of despair
The face says he wants you to stay
From everyone he wants to keep you away
You look around again hoping it’s not real
Your life was never his to steal
You beg to be taken back to familiarity
Such a place is too much of a peculiarity
He covers his face and wails helplessly
He says, “I thought you came willfully…”
You frown and say, “I came for a short while,
I looked you in the face and gave you a smile.
Perhaps I’ll come visit you in a dream
And I’m sure so real it will seem.”
After a few last blinks of the eyes
We say our final goodbyes.
Tucked in our sanctuary of sleep
After a yawn you don’t hear a peep.
We say our final goodbyes
Tucked in our sanctuary of sleep
After a yawn you don’t hear a peep.
