In Those Days

In Those Days

In the days when light was darkness

When the night passed by like the daytime

We dreamed such silly dreams

During that time when I felt so helpless

Every star in the sky was its own world

We spent many nights there

Clouds passing by like shifting silhouettes

Wishing upon every shooting star

We wished so many things

Slumbering with the company of the air

With our thoughts carrying us away

We never knew how far we went

Once we landed in our temporary place

All things seemed so strange to see

We had only each other then

Grasping to behold our new environment

Bewildered and amazed

We held hands and took a deep breath

The time came to take our first steps

So many directions to choose

We didn’t know which way to go

In those days all we could do was pray

Light mobilized our feet to follow its path

We found our way back home again

Looking back at our painful ignorance

Struggles and trials, coming and going

We were always in love.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
