Deconstructing English
What’s happening to our language?
Or is it only me?
I so distraught by what I’m taught,
I no longer clearly see.
But it seems the nouns are haughty,
Filled with pride of who they are,
And the verbs have all turned naughty,
Acting ugly and bizarre.
The cloying, saccharin adjectives,
Manipulate my mind,
And the abusive heckling adverbs,
Sorely sour me on their kind.
Prepositions all are simply stale,
And relate through antonyms,
While conjuctions ought to be in jail,
What for all their proven sins,
They enable run-on sentences,
And just generally confuse,
And if all that isn’t proof enough,
However’s not a good excuse.
What’s happening to English?
Don’t they teach it proper, anymore?
Do I have to reach some foreign shore,
To sense it’s glory just once more?
