Rendition Passage
Tonight my heart’s a restless sea
As surging waves wash over me
Beacon light’s along the shore
Give and take their promises
Just like young Katie did.
Fog horn’s blast eminates
Through the irrascible gloom
Of Ruby’s old neurosis.
Kerry’s fragile quickstep
Solo’s it for now
But the tune’s about to change
Moon’s acned face
Shines above convection
On silvery battle scars
Warning of those sullen billows'
Sweeping surge of agony
I used to own a tacky yacht
Wasn’t much, and it slooped a lot
At every red light returning.
Tell me what I ought to do
Is it better to canoe
Or like Michael, row the boat ashore?
Daniel’s glance chills my shoulder
Warn’s me- soon, when I am older
I will meet the unicorn.
Remenisce of smoother sailing
John reminds that he’s unveiling
When there’ll be no sea at all.
Strange, that calms the inner wave
But drowning Peter’s still to save
I think that I, too, need a hand
For I am swimming far from land
Of this I now am learning.
Treading water on the tide
Losing with each step I stride
The chill is feeling warm
Ah, there it is, it’s on me now
Declarative rendition
I’m imprisoned and on trial
And though I’ll plead innocence
I’m dark as sin of something
And that’s the torturing thought
Jonah, Jonah, Ninevah heeded you
Damn you vine, one more time
Where were you when I needed you?
If only that fish would puke again
I might wobble ashore unscathed
A whim, as light dims in the distance.
I lay back accepting my blanketlessness
Senses no longer navigating
Hope, forever swimming against the tide.
I think that I shall simply watch the stars
The shore fog is long gone
And salty swells are smugly slapping.
