The Most Beautiful

I can just go blind now,

I confess, if but to only you,

Mine eyes have seen the glory. . .

It's my own private story

But before I die, some other eye

Needs to see that glory, too.

We follow after rainbows

Hinting beauty in the storm

We hope the nighted traveler

Finds harbor from liife's storm

We travel far in search of beauty

For some transcendant truth

We risk our lives, if by chance to find

The fabled fountain of our youth

As I think with fading eye-sight

How the world has dimmed all light

The most beautiful wonder of my life

is the way you look tonight.

OK, this is good. but poetry only works on poets, and those who appreciate the idea of hyperbole. A concrete thinker says, "How insincere!" Harv

My question is do we care about a concrete thinker ? live love and be happy Marie

Harv, to me the poem speaks of unearthly beauty and a search with human vision and the "eye" speaks of a spiritual beauty, perhaps a muse, succubus, siren or guide/angel. Line 3 of stanza one suggests the glory of the coming of the Lord… left unfinished but implied. In life we search for beauty, for eternal life outwardly but we have all of that already if we seek by looking inward for inside of us are the keys to knowledge and eternal life; the trees of knowledge and life are not out there somewhere but inside us. When the bible suggests the cherubim guard entry to Eden, this Eden is inside only visible with the single eye, the last place we search. Olan.

Olan what tea are you drinking? You got all that metaphysical stuff out of that, or was this a chance to pour some conversation into it? I am entertained, nevertheless. Be well. Harv

Green tea, lol, but not that pale green broth my Japanese friends offered me. No, I glean all that from you poem as I read it closely. Interpretation is tricky for we have to filter it through our brain and its experiences, plus I have read some of your other poems and have my own guides in my life, smile. Olan.

magnificent words of love, romanticism to someone whom you must admire inside out because describing such beauty the way you did has to be told by the heart & eye too... lucky lady

You read with discernment. Or else you read all the preceeding commentary. Harv

I like this, Harv................it has that touch of beauty not seen as lovely as what we wish, or think we do...................................g

Of course we poets find perception more important than sensation. So we don't have to see something to see something, and that's something that drives non-poet spouses bananas at times.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
