Protect, Defend...just for the sake of a friend!
My Grandma used to tell me
that fighting for yourself is essential
and your great self-defense
from those who oppose you.
As I grow old and as my mind starts to grasp comprehension;
I realized that what’s more important
is not how you will protect and defend yourself,
but how you are willing to rescue a special friend
who deserves your struggles.
Indeed, I don’t have the strength of a wrestler
nor the brain of a whiz kid
or even a gun to shoot and kill an opponent.
All I have is a heart
that is willing to love and sacrifice;
a pair of ears to listen to the moans of a broken heart;
a shoulder to offer to catch those unstoppable tears;
and understanding to appreciate ones grief.
All of these I’m most willing and ready to offer
just for the sake of those special loved ones.
I have learned from recent events
that confronting a friend’s antagonist
and use of serrated words
is not always a must.
In fact it is not wise and very unladylike.
What your friend really needs
is your support and compassion;
your ears, your shoulders
and your heart!
