SuSpence's Dream

This is an original poem, inspired by several of Bob Dylans works (Duh haha), as he often wrote early in his career about the possibility of a nuclear war. He was writing his works while under the dark shadow of the Cuban Missle Crisis. But with the terror and turmoil in the world today and the expansion of nuclear arms the dark shadow has reared its ugly head once again, but today casts a much larger and more dubious shadow than ever before in History. I hope you enjoy, Spence, P.S. Check the Roots Dylan cover out, its great!

In the back of a bus,
on my way downtown
I had myself a dream,
which got me kind of down

I hope it was a dream,
now only time can tell
The day mans selfishness,
sent us to live in his hell

One push of the button,
as Heaven and Earth fell
Chemical dust a mushroom,
no safe place to dwell

Six billion dead,
in the blink of an eye
Chemical dust rains down,
upon the ashes so high

Politicians flee to the underground,
only they're privy to the warning sounds
So cozy they'll be, in thier new found shelter
leaving us here alone, to endure the nuclear swelter

A solitary man, I walked the lonely road,
searching for company, for fear of living alone
Along the way, I saw many an old friend
Never though this was how.....
they would.....meet thier end

On the lonesome road I saw nary a rainbow
I heard a song of love, but on death it was skipping
I heard a man screaming, while his flesh was a burnin'
A young woman cried as her skin was just drippin'
I hear a baby sigh as its vaporized before me
I heard the dark angels voices joyfully singin'
All hope before me, rapidly fadin'
Twenty years in a day, my body was aging
The anger inside me was boiling and ragin'
There was no one around to issue the blame
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, the self-prophesied claim
Only my soul, chemical ash and soot still remain
Stuck under my boot, no longer a name
What we became, we've only ourselves to blame
As the universe looks down upon us in shame

This world to me, singularly bestowed
So I lit up a cigarette,
and walked back on down the road

i dont think I have read that yet charlie. But it is on my must read list now! Thanks for stopping bye and commenting. Dylan is a poetic genius. Too bad so many fall into the traps set by todays industry standards that they miss out on his brilliance. ~Spence

Very True, thanks so much for the read my friend. ~Spence

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
