Poem Commentary

Some of these lines are based on first hand accounts and others are more, observations of the world.

Ugly World

I look down on the world and I notice it's turning,
churning and burning in molten anger and hate
I saw a new born baby in the arms of his father,
motionless and cold with holes in thier heads
I heard the cries of a women praying for a bullet,
while trapped and screaming and burning to ash
I heard the roar of a gunshot, blast through a window,
I see the body of a dying boy, who abandoned all hope
I hear millions pray to a diety of Love,
then commit acts of hatred and rage in it's name

I see millions of lost and starving and broken,
while politicians cross thier fingers as they smile and wave
term after term they proclaim they are with us,
but year after year still nothing has changed
I can see a faint light, at the far end of the tunnel,
but at this rate, in a 100 years all will still be the same
so I look in the mirror and ask 'Why keep on going?',
then I see my baby girl in the reflection behind me,
loving and smiling, hope in her eyes a glowin',
just then this ugly world is beautiful again

I love this ! Our world is one filled with horrors and destruction and yet a child's smile can fill us with beauty and hope. Now it's my grandchildren that evoke this feeling of beauty and if I am fortunate enough to live long enough my great grandchildren will.Thank you for such a wonderful piece .. Lena

This one is great! With all the horror that surrounds us that we can do nothing about to change it, we can look towards our pure and innocent children and there is the light of the world, there is the salvation we desire. Too many I know have no desire to have children. I just can not understand that as all I ever wanted was to hold a life that I created and would love me till the end of time. Not some person one would have to impress but a child of your's that overcomes all the rest. Angel is my son and all I have ever needed was he. I love it, I really really love it. Your daughter is your future forever. I shall look forward to reading more. Caryn on the Rhine

BRASH, HONEST, AND RAW TO THE VERY CORE OF TRUTH. THERE IS SO MUCH PAIN, AGONY, TERROR, AND TORMENT IN THIS WORLD. SO MUCH UGLINESS AND DEATH, DESPAIR, SO MUCH CORUPTION THAT IT REALLY MAKE ONE SICK WITH TORMENT TO SEE OF SUCH SIGHTS. TRUTHFULLY SUCH SIGHTS AND IDEALS CREATE AN HELL ON EARTH WORSE THAN ANYTHING THE DEVIL CAN DEMISE. I DON'T BELIEVE IN SOME HELL CREATED BY THE DEVIL, FILLED WITH PITS OF BLOOD AND ROTTING FLESH HANGING FROM CROSSES. TRUTHFULLY I CAN THINK OF WORSE SIGHTS AND TERROR RIGHT HERE ON THE EARTH WHERE WE LIVE THQAT OCCUR EACH AND EVERY DAY. THE DEVIL IS NOT IN HELL, HE IS AMOUNG US. YET IN THE WAKE OF SUCH DARKNESS AND DISPAIR THERE LIES THE EYES OF PURITY AND GRACE, THERE LIES THE EYES OF ANGELS. WHO SEE THE WORLD FROM A DIFFERENT PRESPECTIVE, PURE, BEAUTIFUL, FREE OF CORUPTION, FREE OF FEAR AND TORMENT. TO SEE THE EYES OF AN ANGEL ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS LOOK INTO THE EYES OF OUR CHILDREN... I HAVE THREE AND COULDN'T AGREE MORE, THEY ARE MY WORLD DEVINE. THEY ARE THE HOPE, THE DREAM, THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL, THEY ARE OUR HEART'S SALVATION OF SUCH AN UGLY MESS WE CREATE... AWESOME READ, VERY INSPIRING! PURITY OF THE SOUL, JOURNEY WELL!!! ANGEL

Thanks Angel. It seems same as Yin and Yang, you cannot have good without evil. For one to exist, so must the other. Thanks for your comments. -Spence

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
