A Night at the Movies
A Night at the Movies
I met my new friend Thanksgiving Day. We were volunteers. I served mashed potatoes; he dished green beans. During the Holidays we meet at the church. He teaches me about working with the homeless. He served 18 years in prison for safecracking. I’m a businessman with a house in the burbs, kids and a dog. We became great friends. Last night he could only afford a cup of Wonton soup so I got the same.
We went back to the church. He told me he slept on those steps for two years. He set up his little android and we watched a Bruce Lee movie on the cold granite. We laughed and joked, barely noticing the people walking by. He poked my shoulder. “I bet people walking by think you’re homeless,” he joked.
It was the most fun I ever had at the movies.
