Poem Commentary

check out SuSpence's Poetry News Forum for today's news in poetry form :) this piece is probably less hard news and more part of the "Life" section, but the idea of "today's news" in poetry form has always been compelling to me ... so if you have poetry on current events, please post to the Poetry News forum! I love this poem. When I live in Eugene, during my undergrad days, I would fly over Mt. St. Helen, the Mt. Fuji of the Cascade and admire her perfect form and beauty. Back then she was whole and had not spoken in ages. I returned to my native Missouri and the month before the birth of my son; she spoke fire and ash. Her form had changed and barren was the landscape. She is a mighty a terra former, a creator of change and a revealer of rebirth.

ty for your surprise visit and beautiful note! what a wonderful feeling, that any of the peace and inspiration i get from the growing things and the creepy crawlers and the birds and the bees can be translated and shared! looking forward to reading your work! -dh

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
