Sincerity

I grew up
  not knowing sarcasm
Only experiencing it
  occasionally
as barbs of veiled
  intentions
My father was strict
  on this notion -
Anything but Sincerity
  is a Colossal
Waste of Time
It's deeply ingrained
  and I Sincerely
thank him
  for the lesson
I grew up
  not knowing sarcasm

this says a lot about who you are as a person and a woman......and as much as i hate to admit it.....as i get older i understand more about how my father shaped my personality...poetry perfected

This pushes at memory lane. Personally, I grew up on sarcasm/ nothing but barbed intention. "Listen, I want you do what I say or get out! When I address you I want to hear 'Yes sir'." The old Marine sergeant never gave up his 'Once a Marine always a Marine' attitude. "If I say 'jump' I want to see you jump as high as you can!" "If I say 'shit" I want you to ask me what color: brown, green, yellow, white or black; and it if I say red, I want you to bleed." But when it came to spending a bit for my education all the doors were unbolted. "Don't become a pack horse like me," he said. :-)

the lessons come in packages of all sizes and colors ... i can relate to this mentality, as well, tho as a girl it came more like "you can't be so sensitive" ... lol ... still trying to work that one out ... thx for this share, RHPeat! -dh

This is worded perfectly, DH... and your sincerity shines. I learned a lot from my dad, also. And I wish that he were still around so that I could thank him each and everyday for his life-lessons. Thanks so much for sharing this!

sarcasm has high-intensity impact for sure ... thx for the read and the note, Darlin' :) -dh

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
