Six Gone

Six Gone

No one saw the storm approaching
Blue skies above before the lightening
Then tears fell as sheets of rain
But not forgotten down the drain
As the devil raged his dance
I sorrow the children who had no chance
Why couldn't he let them live
They all had much more to give
~
Those baby boys, it's just not fair
He pulled the trigger, he didn't care
He lost his mind that fateful night
And what he's done is far from right
I feel their pain, I cannot flirt
I cannot laugh, I feel their hurt
He knows he should have let them live
He's a man none should forgive
~~~~~~
They weren't here long
The pain is too strong
What went wrong?
They found Six gone
~~~~~~
He took away their tomorrow
To offer up a hand of sorrow
A lasting contract written in blood
Their mortal coil in the mud
In the world what'd they do
To deserve a father as cruel as you
In their home is left a stain
Along with all their tears and pain
~
A coward's leap is just one step
He pulled the trigger when he should have left
He should have thought, he could have prayed
Instead of death he could have saved
But his eyes turned black, his conscience left
He took their lives and gave them death
Their beauty once shared the day
But he's taken them away
~~~~~~
The pain is so strong
What went wrong
Remember them long
 Those six gone
~~~~~~
Human ways are less than noble
Pounded chests refuse to be humble
Anger flows in an evil way
The fallen reach to pull us astray
So nowadays what makes sense
We find ourselves ride the fence
Of what is right and what is wrong
Before we know it six more are gone
~
They weren't here long
The pain is so strong
Remember this song
Of those six gone

(In memory of those lost in Delavan, WI during June 2007)

Yet you did it again! I saddens my heart when a parent kills their own seed. In your poem the six still lives...in memory! Love it!

I looked up the story behind this poem. Very sad. From the little information I could find it almost seems as if this situation was blown over without much pause. I had never even heard about it here in Florida. It's very touching that you wrote a memoir for them.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
