The Old Songman
I met an old man
in a Texas coastal town
a carpenter and songman
who was seldom down
he built structures strong and true
and
sang songs of hope and love
and the blues
I loved to watch that old man
sing and play
in those old honkey tonks
down by the bay
he played the blues
on an old fender start
and
always wore a straw cowboy hat
boots on and tappin his toe
the old man always put on
a good show
after another drag and another drink
he would would play a song
that would make me think
How luck I am
to hear him play
in those old hinkey tonks
down by the bay
the old man isnt with us
he's gone to the great honky tonk in the sky
the old man wouldnt want you to cry
he would want you to smile
he would want you to sing
he would want you to feel
and
experience everything
he would tell us
life is to short
we are not hear long
be happy
and
sing a song
