Poem Commentary

Everything that's wrong with the greedy corporate side of the music industry.  Hollywood's included too.  They create these stars and market them for profits.  Sure, some are extremely talented, but too many contemporary artists of today are lacking in that respect.  Still, three cheers for creativity.

American Ido( l / n't )

Stars have a saying when they're only getting used
'I'm not perfect' is the line when they're excused

Build them up for publicity when the public is enthused
Tear them down for complicity again and they're excused

They love the spotlight, so they endure getting abused
Interviews in the news accuse even when they're excused

Is the money, fame, and power worth feeling that misused
When an ego's bruised, they rant and rave, yet they're excused

Authenticity rarely shows up when they're continually overused
When it does, they're often bemused as they're excused

When adoring love turns to brutal hate, they're confused
A fan of theirs', but not today; seal their fate as they're excused

Very true....is it really worth it?? it also brings up the question...do some of them even know who they truly are??...or are they too caught up in trying to be who everyone else want them to be to know who they really are??...then again...sometimes that's something almost everyone struggles with at some point...Great write!!

Kaiprin, The rhyming and theme here is superb. I love your clever words and the truth of superstardom crashing down. Hey if one is in the spotliht for only a moment , better than no moment at all. ginga

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.

Plato (BC 427-BC 347) Greek philosopher.
