Insanity's Fire
Deep, haunting blue eyes stare into the flames of remorse
Patiently waiting for time to run and take its own course
Every second brings a new, neurotic thought of self-doubt
Will tomorrow be different? Will I be one who is without?
A panic-stricken feeling illuminates the blue hue of pain
Warm, gentle, reassuring words are absent time and again
Light the fuse of compassion and rely on many of its strengths
Many men have fought for, died, and gone on to great lengths
To seek love and knowledge of being loved at great expense
Invisible tears well up inside the mind and refuse to descend
The aftermath of intentional cruelty chooses not to make amends
All that’s left is unsurpassed intensity carved out by endurance
Jaded, most lose hope and fall to the insecure, pessimistic assurance
That what we have is eternal and everlasting, though here briefly
Failing to realize that all we really have is the dirt beneath me
