Here To Stay

Poem Commentary

Everybody needs somebody

Here To Stay

Now I told you that I love you
But you won’t believe a word I say
Even when I smile and hug you
You shrug, frown, and look away
Why can’t you believe me when I
Look you in your eyes and say
That you were meant for me
And I will always be here to stay

What will it take for you to believe
What will it take for you to see the real me
What will it take for our love to receive
The trust it needs to grow and achieve

Problems come and go like the
yesterdays and tomorrows they follow
We’re not that different from others
Who work through what smothers
Their comfort and need to have space
In a life that takes more and more away
Please believe me when I say
That I love you and I’m here to stay

What will it take for you to believe
That I’m for real and I won’t deceive
What will it take for our love to receive
The trust it needs to grow and achieve

Everyday can bring a pain to take your joy away,
But you can choose to forgive and let it slip away
If you really love me, you’d give me half the chance
To wrap my arms around you and share romance

What will it take for you to believe
Because of you I breathe and bleed
When you win I feel like I succeed
Trust in me and we can achieve

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
