I was left to ponder

    I was left to ponder

Often did I feed carrots to the horses
While in paddocks next to courses

Wary of receiving a nasty bite
With my fingers I was always light

    Horses are not terribly smart
At nothing they spook and start

Far be it for them to quantify and see
The difference between carrots and me

I always stood behind the electric wire
The danger of iron clad hooves most dire

And when they had ate all that I had
They stood there looking oh so sad

Wuffling and bucking their massive heads
Trampling the muck with their iron treads

As if to say they demanded more of me
That I had come up lacking a carrot or three

Then at last they turned away
And trotted off with ample sway

    Disdaining further interaction
    With the human faction

I was left to ponder all alone
    Rain, sun and crops grown

I like it it is fun to read and leave the mind with a little smirk to think of the horses maybe laughing a us--M

Great couplets, good tension, and the mystery of horses is stated well. The last 4 lines are splendid. ginga

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
