Dead and buried ah there’s the sound
There’s nothing quite like enemies in the ground
Knowing that their ability to inspire
Trouble and other things did as well expire

And then at last the rancor can abate
You can go at night to their graves very late
Bring not a fiddle no dancing on the grave
No gleeful cackling and certainly do not rave

But remember that which lies there made you
Who you are now so give them their due
For enemies get under your skin like a parasite
Devouring you from within filling you with spite

So walk over and rouse them from their sleep
Tell them your joys and make them weep
Let their mark upon you downward seep
For friends come and go but enemies you keep

I get this! people come and go, friend or foe.. And how true it is that they make you and some are family. It is the scars that our nemesis' make that are seemingly impossible to break free from. Nice rhythm and flow. Excellent read!

what is it they say...ah yes, Living well is the best revenge...but I don't suppose dancing on our enemies graves while gloating is any kind of detractor....although I don't know that I hate anyone enough to actually do it. lol

Interesting read. I'd rather bury my enemies but hopefully have few or none. Some one said keep you friends close and your enemies even closer.

What a lesson of life to be learned and hopefully not after one is buried. A unique and off color poem that wows me. Ginga

you have the old poet's very refreshing

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
