    Revulsion

    I wish I smoked
I could sit at a cafe all day
look cool, look hip, look French
    drink coffee

I could rub out a butt
every time an idiot displeased me

    I could blow smoke rings
    and worry about
looking cool, looking hip, looking French
ignore the idiots who displeased me

    But I don't
    smoke that is
and the idiots walk by and annoy me
and the idiots walk by and annoy me

I see shopping bags go buy
measuring worth only by the digits of the bank account
Have they read one line of Rousseau
I bet they believe every line of Ayn Rand

I see fresh and young go bye
measuring worth by the lack of wrinkles they count
Time, time will bring them low
They can't believe they will run out of sand

I see slack, slack jaws go by
Dead dull eyes can they even count
and thoughts so low and slow
Do they even see the back of their hand

    But I don't
    smoke that is
and the idiots walk by and annoy me
and the idiots walk by and annoy me

Very very nicely written Winter. Most of my friends are older than I am and they always tell me that I am just a baby. (Although I am 40 years old). But I remember when life wasn't quite so fast and people actually cared about each other. People used to smile and say hello to each other on the street or passing you in a store. Today most people won't even look at you. So many things we take forgranted pass us by and so many people don't even care. But, I do. Thank you for sharing your wonderful work with us. Vanessa

Once again winter another great and powerful piece of work. Your poetry always shows such conviction to your minds eye. 'Tis always a pleasure to read your artwork my friend you are quite the masterful artist. Wonderfully crafted, great read and enjoyed it from beginning to end certainly a ten from this lady.

winter, I am astounded with the affect this poem has on me! Truly masterful and the repetition of lines is beyond measure. ginga

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
